Strat tremolo how many springs

Kiko , Oct 26, I don't use it much and I want it wobbling around as little as possible. Bigmuff , Oct 26, Am I the only one that likes 4? I do have at least one with 3, none with 5.

Georgiatec , RiverRatt and DirtySteve like this. I Don't use the whammy a lot on my strat either but I use heavy strings and five would make big bends more strenuous. I've gots them 'Raw Vintage' springs that have much less tension, so I can get away with using all five.

They're on my BladeRunner tremolo and I can do crazy trem flutters with it still using all five springs. I like a lot of flex. Joined: Feb 18, Messages: 12, Likes Received: 2, The strings seem to vibrate longer with 2 springs missing. I'm not running with big strings either. And I think it's harder for the strings to return to pitch if there's 5 springs. Jimi went out of tune a lot but my guitar stays in tune better when I play the same songs.

Messages I put five on mine with 11s. I use Callaham hardware. I like a little float in the trem, though, so this provides a little extra tug to brings things back to where they were and keep things stable. If you're letting your bridge rest on the body, then maybe the extra springs are not so important. I never use my trem, so it's 5 for me!

SNick Member. I use 2 black springs on my AM Strat 2 point bridge. Boris Bubbanov Member. Messages 23, Even guitars with supposedly identical setups can have one more, one less spring, and maybe a little more or a little less tightness on the trem claw. With the same string guage, tuning, etc. Messages 34, For stability but needing a heavy hand add springs, reduce tension, and vice -versa. I prefer 3 springs in strats because it gives the trem bar a medium resistance.

Two springs feels too light to push down and is way to hard for my taste. Dana Olsen Platinum Supporting Member. Messages 7, I like to float the bridge, and I always felt like the bridge was moving a little bit every time I picked a note, which made the whole instrument feel a little bit unstable to me. My right hand felt like I was picking on a slightly moving target, messed up my picking. I put 5 Raw Vintage springs on a Strat, bumped from 9.

By docjeff , November 2, in Electric Guitars. Just curious what y'all are using. I removed a spring on my strat and adjusted the claw so it now has 2 springs. I use. So far, so good. I really like the smooth-feeling trem action, and you can get some really cool effects by resting your hand on the bridge and "warbling" it while you are playing big, open chords.

Sounds almost like a chorus pedal. Anyone else have this setup? Edit: one other cool thing. I installed a blender pot awhile back, and I discovered my favorite sound. It's the position between the middle and neck pickup with the bridge pickup blended in just slightly. You get the out of phase sound with just a touch more brightness and not quite as much phasiness since the neck and bridge are in phase when blended.

My guitar is setup as your's. Now that I want to clamp it down, and don't want it to move I have all five springs in, with a set of strings. When I used the trem, I used four springs, and the claw a bit further towards the bridge.

Same strings. I believe that i have the standard set up of three springs in both of my Strats - the MIA Fender Std has the two-post modern trem, set up floating; the cheapo copy has a vintage style trem, set flat to the body. Does it come through the amp? No, but yes. Mute it and something's missing. You can hear it when it's not there. Know whatda mean? Tuner Sandwich , Feb 6, Age: 73 Messages: 9, Two springs, one tremsetter, no waiting. T Bone Slort , Feb 6, Stratoman10 , 3bolt79 , Michael and 1 other person like this.

Age: 47 Messages: 14, The one on the left has 2 springs. The one on the right has 2 springs and a Tremsetter. I also have 2 Floyds with this spring setup. Then one Floyd like this. All the rest of my strats with 6 point bridges are like this unless decked.
